Pigeons
(Edinburgh, March 2003)

This was the shot which started off the pigeon series seriously. Taken on the banks along Prince's Street looking towards the Walter Scott Monument in Edinburgh (top left). It was a cold afternoon and we sat there with our M&S lunch swamped by pigeons. I'm fascinated by the birds' movement, their sheer cheek, flight...
The image was taken sitting right at pigeon level. I love the perspective lines in this, flowing towards a definite point top centre. Several of my closest friends have copies of this one, with this scan taken from a signed print.

Pigeon Bewildered
(London, August 2006)

Walking along the banks of the Thames early one morning, I stopped to take a few shots when this pigeon spotted me. He seems as interested in me as I was in him.

I can't really explain my interest in pigeons as a photographic subject. They're cheeky, and in cities, often dirty and deformed. "Rats with wings" as a friend used to say.

And yet, they are as London to me as Big Ben and red phone boxes. Bizarre...

Edward
(Newtownards, July 2007)

Its not too often you get to stare a dinosaur in the face!
Edward is a recently adopted member of the family, having been found crossing the road by my father in the countryside.

Red-eared Terripins were highly sought after in the 1980s and 90s thanks to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles craze, and many were abandoned to the elements.

This shot allows the viewer to see Edward on his level.

Le Pigeon
(Paris, March 2005)

Pigeons are another frequent subject for me. Flying rats they might be, but they unite many European cities as a common sight. This particular example is of a lone pigeon traversing the beautiful cobbled banks of the Seine in Paris during a very sunny afternoon in March 2005.
